Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix sour cream, cottage cheese, cream cheese, 8 tablespoons of butter, and the eggs in a mixing bowl. Set the mixture aside.
Bring a pot of salted water to a boil (at least 4 quarts in capacity). Cook noodles until al dente. Drain the noodles. Lightly stir the hot noodles into the cheese mixture. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and onions to the pan to sauté, stirring occasionally until lightly caramelized. Once the pan has reached temperature, this should take about 8 minutes.
Add the noodle and cheese mixture to a casserole dish, along with the sautéed garlic and onions. Top the mixture evenly with the pieces of smoked salmon and use the handle of a spoon to insert the salmon pieces about ½ inch in depth.
Bake in the pre-heated oven until browned. This should take about 35-40 minutes. Check after 30 minutes.
